Welcome to St Thomas More Catholic  Nursery

How can Parents help in settling your child into Nursery

It would be a great help if your child could, have a good try at:

  1. Undressing and dressing themselves.
  2. Fastening shoes, tying laces, using accessible zips and buttons.
  3. Coping with toilet needs and flushing the toilet.
  4. Using cutlery (staff will assist with cutting up food).
  5. Tidying up after themselves.

These social skills, as you will already appreciate, are very important to the children’s developing confidence. Praise, patience and encouragement work wonders. As you are supporting your children in developing these skills, the children will also receive plenty of encouragement from us.

Prayer

Prayer is an important part of our daily lives and we encourage children to take part in our prayers during the day. We say prayers in the morning, lunchtime and at the end of the day. We are a worshipping community who respects other faiths and cultures and come together in peace and unity to praise God

Our Routines

Breakfast will be available for those children starting at 8am till 8.30am and tea from 3.30pm to 4pm there will be a charge for these.

f your child is staying over the lunch time period, please label their lunch box clearly with their name and place in on the trolley. Please send a healthy meal which includes items such as sandwiches, yoghurt and a piece of fruit.  Please do not send any food containing nuts, fizzy drinks or glass bottles. Please provide a small ice pack in your child’s lunch box.

For those children staying all day a hot meal/pudding will be available, there will be a charge of £2.00

Each session we enjoy sharing milk/water and fruit/savoury snack at our morning and afternoon snack time. Water is available at all times throughout the day.

When arriving or collecting your child PLEASE only let a member of staff open the front door. This enables us to monitor who is entering and leaving the premises.

Parents are invited to attend Nursery celebrations, to help in the Nursery and accompany educational trips. Parents are also invited once a week for one hour to play and stay with their child and meet staff. We are appreciative of all the help that Parents give and of their many and varied talents, if you would like to share these with the Nursery.

Throughout the year the children have the opportunity to choose a book from our library situated in the entrance, this will be done weekly, and all books must be returned at the end of the week.

Our nursery uses Blossom to record your child’s observations and next step, you will be given an email and password to enable you to access Blossom and we would appreciate you adding pictures and observations of your child.

To guide the children, we as a Nursery have a very simple set of rules.

Try to do what you are asked.

Care for everybody and everything.

Listen to others.
