Accelerated Reader

We use Accelerated Reader (AR) as a motivational reading tool from Year 3 upwards.  Year 2 pupils are added to the system throughout the year at the teacher's discretion.

Accelerated Reader is a computer program that helps teachers manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice.

Your child picks a book at his/her own level and reads it at his/her own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer at school - passing the quiz is an indication that your child has understood what has been read.

AR gives both children and teachers feedback based on the quiz results which the teacher then uses to help the child set targets and ongoing reading practice.

The school has a comprehensive AR library that ensures the pupils read a broad and diverse range of texts.   This quiz result is then shared with the teacher, and with parents and carers if you have set up your account.

Renaissance Home Connect

At the start of the year, your child will bring home a letter that contains all the details needed to set up an account.

Once you have set up your account, you will be able to see your child's AR quiz results and be able to see all the texts that they have read.

If you have any questions about this, please discuss this with your child's class teacher.
